Upcoming Conferences & Workshops

  • 4th Annual Growing the Margins and 2nd Annual Canadian Farm and Food Biogas conference and exhibition: Both conferences will be held March 8-12, 2010, at the London Convention Centre, London, Ontario, Canada. These conferences are regarded as the premier forums to obtain information on energy conservation, renewable energy generation, byproducts production and use and other related issues impacting the farm and food sectors.
  • BioEnergy & Renewable Energy Conference, Prince George (BC) June 8th – 10th, 2010: With a traditional focus on wood-based bioenergy, this year’s conference is being expanded to include sessions on ‘Bioenergy Deployment Today’, ‘Bioenergy Technologies for Tomorrow’, ‘Advancements in Municipal and Community Energy’ and ‘Agricultural Bioenergy’. Early bird registration is only CAC$485 until April 5th. To see the draft conference program, please click here.

Useful Documents

  • elorin Bioenergy Feasibility Study: The Eastern Lake Ontario Regional Innovation Network (elorin) has launched a comprehensive Bioenergy Feasibility Study for Eastern Ontario. This report, which is one component of this study, provides useful information into technology options for anaerobic digestion.
  • Wisconsin Agricultural Biogas Casebooks: These casebooks include brief case studies of farm-based anaerobic digesters installed in the Great Lakes region (casebooks 2002 and 2004) and Wisconsin (casebooks 2008 and 2009). This report gives a snapshot with some history of the farms with operating anaerobic digester systems as of November 2009. This information is presented to give those interested in digesters some insight into how these systems are working with comments from system owners.
  • Development of a Calculator for the Techno-economic Assessment of Anaerobic Digestion Systems: This document is phase one of an on-line Anaerobic Digestion (AD) calculator project. Included in this document is a literature review, the properties of organic wastes, kinetic models for AD and available reactor configurations, and existing AD-related calculators. This was produced by Sue Baldwin, Anthony Lau and Max Wang (Chemical and Biological Engineering, UBC).
  • Resources from Waste: This guide outlines various “resources from waste” techniques (including anaerobic digestion), as well as relevant legislation, provincial policies and funding programs.

Useful Websites

  • British AD site: Developed by the National Non-Foods CC, with the support of Departemnt for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs and Department of Energy & Climate Change, this site is England's official information portal on anaerobic digestion.

Interesting Projects/Research

  • Turning Waste into Energy: The Government of Canada announces federal repayable contribution of up to $1.6 million to help Seacliff Energy Inc. transform waste into clean energy and fertilizer.
